100 KM – Teams of 4 – 48 hours

Can it be done?

YES!

But I think I must be crazy too!

Oxfam TRAILWAKLER Melbourne

I have just signed up to do the Oxfam TRAILWALKER on the weekend of 16-18 April next year.  It is the world’s greatest team challenge. And it’s also one of the toughest. The challenge is to get your team of four across 100km of Australian bush in less than 48 hours – and, collectively, to raise at least $1,000 to help to overcome poverty and suffering around the world.

I have heard many gruelling stories about the Oxfam Trailwalker that challenge even the most fittest of people.  I have heard there are teams who run the entire 100km and finish it under 15 hours.   We have set our sights on finishing it in a more modest time of approximately 25 hours. Apparently the biggest obstacle is overcoming blisters on the feet. We will be walking all through the day and night with headlamps and only stopping to rest at individual checkpoints.  I honestly don’t know what to expect but I am very much looking forward to the challenge.  I love bushwalking and hiking and the tranquility of nature so when I was approached about joining a team I jumped at the opportunity.

Each team must commit to raising at least $1000 to support Oxfam’s work. Our team has committed to raising $3000. It will be a mean feat but it is something we believe we can achieve.

At the time of writing this, we are looking for at least two people to be our support crew – one to drive and one to navigate. The support crew will play a key role to provide our team with good food, additional clothing and motivation.  If anyone who lives near Melbourne is interested and would like to support Nicollette, Ryan, Pauline and myself please get in touch.

To find out more and to help support our cause, go to our team page at http://www2.oxfam.org.au/trailwalker/melbourne/team/272. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.  At this stage, our team is nameless and to kickstart our fundraising, we have decided to have a ‘name us’ competition. To enter, we ask for a donation of your choice (every bit helps) to help us raise money. The winner will receive two gold class movie tickets – your choice of movie and date. To enter just email your name idea to niclet@bigpond.net.au. A couple we’ve had so far is Must Love Walking and 8 Legs. So people, get your creative thinking hats on and send in your entries.

Stay tuned for more Oxfam details and updates over the coming months.

  1. My husband and I also hyphenated our name. He took mine, I took his. The kids have “ours”. It was a great idea, liberal, foreward thinking, inclusive. Alas, this did not extend to the marriage..
